Chesapeake Civic Chorus to Feature Dr. Patricia Saunders Nixon

CHESAPEAKE—The Chesapeake Civic Chorus will sponsor its annual Winter Concert January 31, 2016, 4:00 P.M. in the Saint Paul’s United Methodist
Church, 437 Providence Road, Chesapeake, Virginia.
Civic Chorus was established in February 2, 1988, by Mrs. Geraldine T. Boone, an accomplished music educator and director, who will be directing the
Chorus, and Mrs. Cecilia Hanlin will be her accompanist.
The Chorus’ repertoire for this event will provide a variety music to bridge the gap between the the historic and accomplished Chesapeake millennium generation and the more traditional music lovers. Songs from the time tested great master composers will be sung as well as songs that will appeal to the new generation. Attendees will enjoy a transformational experience provided by music that will be appreciated by the millennium generation as well as mature music lovers.
Guest soloist for the event is Dr. Patricia Saunders Nixon, an alumnus of Norfolk State University, cum laude graduate in 1978 with a B.S. Degree in Music Education with a double major in voice and organ, and a Master of Music in vocal Performance in 1988. She received a Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance from Shenandoah University/conservatory.
Dr. Nixon is currently an Assistant Professor of Music/Vocal Instructor and Advisor at Norfolk State University. She is also the advisor for the Norfolk State University Urban Control Entertainment Crew and Director of the Gifted and Talented Program.
A concert soprano as well as an Organist, pianist, choir director and adjudicator, Dr. Nixon has performed with the Virginia Opera Association in the role of “Clara” in Gershwin’s Opera Porgy and Bess which she considers one of her career highlights.
She has been included in the Strathmore’s “Who’s Who Worldwide Edition for her outstanding contributions and achievement in the field of education.
The Chorus mission is to foster and develop the art of choral music for its members and the communities it serves. It is comprised of musicians
who reside in Chesapeake and surrounding areas.
The Chorus’ theme is “Your Chorus, Your City, and For You We Sing”.
