August 6: APRI To Host Community Health Fair

NORFOLK
The Hampton Roads A. Phillip Randolph Institute will host a community health fair on Saturday August 6 from noon to 4 p.m. at St. Paul CME Church, 310 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Persons attending will hear a number of speakers and engage with community representatives. The APRI Richmond Chapter, Kirk Jones, President, will be on hand to bring greetings. The event will feature information from health practitioners, to include Dr. Keith Newby, noted cardiologist, who is scheduled to speak on heart health from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m., and Twani Floyd-White from the Norfolk Health Department, who will speak on healthy eating at 3 p.m. Jensen White will lead a 30-minute Zumba Training workout.

Other speakers and presenters scheduled during the day will address the restoration of voting rights for ex-felons, fire safety, police safety and homeless veterans information.
A number of free health screening are planned to include eye screening, diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, glucose and STD screening. The Norfolk Public Library will be in hand with its book mobile, and Kim Brown, a member of APRI, will be registering voters. APRI also will be offering a prescription discount card. St. Paul Church member Margaret Coleman will be registering adults and children for junior church, junior choir, step team, junior ushers and praise dancers. A Kids’ Zone will be equipped with a bounce house, ID A Child, face painting, and school supply giveaways.
