AIDS Fund To Host First Gala of Hope; New Name and Logo to be Unveiled

NORFOLK

The AIDS Fund, Inc., also known as TACT, will unveil a new name and logo at its First Gala of Hope to be held on February 11, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the Ohef Sholom Temple in historic Ghent in Norfolk.

The Gala of Hope will include a dinner dance with live and silent auction hosted by local news personality Barbara Ciara to benefit the AIDS Fund. Local politicians and community leaders will attend along with supporters, donors and volunteers of the AIDS Fund. Entertainment and dancing will be provided by local favorites, the Bar Tones.

The AIDS Fund is a private non-profit organization whose purpose is to support and maintain the best quality of life for persons infected and affected by HIV and to reduce the overall incidence of HIV infection by providing education and information to the general public.

“This is a very exciting time for our agency,” commented Shelley Taylor-Donahue, Executive Director for the AIDS Fund. “We are unveiling a new name and logo for The AIDS Fund which has been around for almost thirty years serving the Eastern Virginia community. We are the largest AIDS service organization in the area and want to continue to provide the best quality care, support and hope to our clients!”

In 1983 when The AIDS Fund, (also known as TACT, PACT, and WAN,) opened its doors to the community, the outlook was grim for people diagnosed HIV positive. The focus in those early days was on case management, respite support for family members and caregivers and ultimately helping our clients die with dignity. As advances were made in the fight against HIV/AIDS, so did the agency’s focus. Today The AIDS Fund provides support to more than 1,241 individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS and gives them hope for a brighter future. The agency continually adds new programs and services to reflect the changing needs of the clients and their families.
