Marriner’s Moments: Rejoicing Anyhow – Part I

By Pastor Melvin O. Marriner

We have all seen or read news accounts of individuals whose lives are shaken by horrific loss or tragedy. Oftentimes, we are in awe of their vow to move forward, forgive or their determination to help others, in spite of their own devastating circumstances or loss. Many of us have experienced situations and trials that push us to muster strength or courage we did not know we had to press forward, remain steadfast, and to get up and not give in.
Life is a beautiful gift from God, and those of us who have lived long enough understand that there are days when we struggle to cope, remain positive, stay on course, or even get out of bed. The Word of God serves to prepare us for those days. In John 16:33, we read the proclamation that “In this world you shall have tribulation,” but we also read the promise … but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
The reality is this … Trials and tribulations are a part of life; they are tests that serve to make us stronger and better, deepen our faith, and draw us into a closer relationship with God. Tests give us testimonies to share, and prepare us to minister to and comfort others who go through similar obstacles. Tests also afford us opportunities to rely on and trust God. We read in 1 Peter 5:10, “So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.”
So, no matter what your circumstances … go ahead and rejoice anyhow!
Peace and power,
