April 8: IBWC To Host 14th Organ Donation Awareness Gala
NORFOLK
The 14th annual Organ Donation Awareness Gala hosted by the International Black Women’s Congress (IBWC) will be held April 8, 2017 at the Marriott Norfolk Waterside. Dr. Clive O. Callender, M.D. will be the keynote speaker.
Dr. Callender is professor of surgery at Howard University Medical School. He was also the first African-American surgeon to perform an organ transplant in the United States. In addition, two outstanding physicians, Dr. Angela Mercer and Dr. Keith Newby are serving as Chairs of the event.
The Gala will feature a VIP Reception from 7-8 p.m., followed by the dinner program. Dancing to the sounds of Dee Polite and the Phenomenal Band will begin at 9:30 p.m.
This annual event is designed to move the International Black Women’s Congress towards its mission to save lives through increasing organ donations in the African-American community and decreasing the number of individuals waiting for an organ transplant.
Funds raised helps transplant recipients with much needed immunosuppressant drugs, and enable IBWC to offer social, psychological and emotional support to donor families, transplant recipients and care givers.
An outstanding pioneer medical doctor, a donor family and a transplant recipient will be honored at the event.
Tickets are $55-$75 each. Sponsorship are available. For more information, go to IBWC.US or call (757) 625-0500. La Francis Rodgers-Rose, Ph.D. is the Founder & CEO and 14 Year Heart Transplant Recipient.
