Norfolk Chapter of Links, Inc. Annual Salute to Scholastic Stars Program

NORFOLK
When the Norfolk Chapter of Links, Inc. sponsored its 29th Annual Salute to Scholastic Stars this past spring, over 230 honor graduates were identified.
The program recognizes and celebrates the academic achievements of the five Norfolk Public Schools’ African-American honor graduates.
These outstanding NPS graduates and their parents are invited to attend this special celebration. During the event, each honor graduate shares with the audience their future college plans and career goals.
The 2015 scholarship recipient was Candace Williams, a Norview High School graduate. Candace is matriculating at the University of Virginia and plans to major in English with the career goal to become a freelance writer. She is the daughter of Anthony and DeLydia Williams.
Norfolk’s Vice Mayor, Councilwoman Angelia Williams-Graves, served as the guest speaker for the occasion. She impressed upon the honorees the importance of goal setting, staying focused, and making good choices as they pursue their hopes and dreams for the future. Parents and guardians were also recognized for the important role they play. A reception for the honorees and their parents followed the program.
In addition, the organization invited honor roll students from its adopted school, Lake Taylor Middle, to this celebration.
The co-chairs of the Services to Youth Facet are Dr. Gloria P. Hagans and Dr. Linda McCluney. The president of the Norfolk Chapter of Links, Inc. is Junelle Banks.
