Addie Wright Thomason To Keynote Urban League’s 33rd Annual MLK Breakfast

Addie Wright Thomason is the keynote speaker at The Urban League of Hampton Roads 33rd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Leaders’ Breakfast Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, 7:30 a.m., at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. This year’s theme is Courage To Love.

The breakfast, created to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., recognizes and presents awards to those dedicated to community service/volunteerism, education, employment, health and housing.

Since 2014, Ms. Thomason has been affiliated with the Virginia Beach Community Development Corporation (VBCDC) where she is the President and CEO. Her goal is to increase the number of affordable homes in Virginia Beach and across the region. Prior to that, she was the Executive Vice President of the Chicago Housing Authority.  

Thomason is an alumnus of Duke University and the University Of North Carolina School of Law at Chapel Hill. She has diverse industry leadership experience including community development, housing development, higher education, Fortune 500, nonprofit, faith-based, consulting, politics and government.

She is also an ordained former pastor.

Thomason currently serves as a board member for Virginia Beach Vision and is the President of the African-American Culture Center Board of Directors.

Begun in 1984, the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Leaders’ awards are presented to individuals or groups who promote positive images, exemplify community service, demonstrate the values that model those of Dr. King and show evidence of the impact their contributions make in the lives of others. The 2017 Urban League of Hampton Roads signature event is presented by EVMS and the city of Virginia Beach. It is also co-sponsored by Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University and Tidewater Community College.
