October 7-12: African Children’s Choir To Perform In Hampton Roads
HAMPTON ROADS
The Grammy-nominated African Children’s Choir will perform at several churches in Hampton Roads in October. Launched in 1984 to provide the basic necessities of life to children orphaned by Uganda’s Civil War, the choir has performed worldwide. This is a free event but a free-will offering is taken at each performance to support African Children’s Choir programs, such as education, care and relief and development programs.
“Inspired by the singing of one small boy, we formed the first African Children’s Choir to show the world that Africa’s most vulnerable children have beauty, dignity and unlimited ability,” said human rights activist Ray Barnett who established the choir. Music for Life (The parent organization for The African Children’s Choir) operates in seven African countries including Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa. MFL has educated over 52,000 children and impacted the lives of over 100,000 people through its relief and development programs during its history.
