Aug. 23: Groups Lined Up For Church Street Celebration
NORFOLK
The City of Norfolk is pleased to announce the 2015 Church Street Celebration set to take place on Sunday, August 23 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the corner of Church Street and Virginia Beach Boulevard. This free gospel community event is open to the public and is a celebration of the rich musical history and talented musicians of Church Street. Doc Christian and Asia Symone of 88.1 WHOV’s Gospel Express will serve as emcees and Reverend Primas Paige & Heaven Bound gospel choir will headline the event.
The day’s festivities will also feature local gospel choirs, speakers, solo artists and Christian rappers including:
• Gethesemane Baptist Church
• Garden of Prayer
• Piney Grove Baptist Church
• United House of Prayer
• St. Mary’s Catholic Church
• Bernard “PeeWee” Thompson
• Rev. William Collins III & Rev. William Collins
• JayEss
• Honey in the Rock Praise Dancers
Bring the whole family and enjoy an evening of live music, food and fun as some of Hampton Roads finest gospel choirs perform the night away.
No seating will be provided so guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets. There will be food trucks on-site for those interested in purchasing food and nonalcoholic beverages. There will be no alcohol permitted.
Parking is free and will be available in the parking lot adjacent to the Attucks Theatre. Please note that from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on that day, Lincoln Street will be restricted from E. Olney Road to E. Virginia Beach Blvd. and Nicholson Street will be restricted from Lincoln Street to Church Street. On-street parking will be restricted during this time.
If inclement weather occurs, the event will be moved inside to the Attucks Theatre.
