September 25: Men for Hope Hosts Open Forum on Community Policing – Featuring Benjamin Crump, Attorney for the Family of Trayvon Martin

NORFOLK
A free public forum on community policing will be held on September 25, 2016 presented by Men for Hope. This organization supports underserved men and their families through education, financial literacy, and life skills development. The forum entitled “Coffee & Conversation” will take place at 2 p.m. at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott. It will feature Attorney Benjamin Crump, who represented the family of Trayvon Martin in the 2012 case that drew national attention on social issues related to police-community and race relations. Crump, founder of MyDad.org, will lead the discussion on how communities can bridge the divide that exists between the community and law enforcement.

“The mission of MyDad.org is to equip struggling fathers with needed resources, such as job readiness and life skills, financial literacy, and access to technology, to achieve success and live a more balanced life, said Crump. “We are pleased to work alongside organizations such as Men for Hope that have a shared vision and commitment focused on restoring trust through thoughtful community engagement and open dialogue.”

The community forum will also include panelists from members of both the government and law enforcement: Mayor Kenneth “Kenny” Alexander (Norfolk), Chief of Police Michael Goldsmith (Norfolk), Bobby Kipper from the National Center for the Prevention of Community Violence, Judge Jerrauld Jones (Norfolk), Pastor Kevin Tremper, CrossRoads Church (Norfolk), Jay Harris from ESPN, Tony Brothers, founder of Men for Hope, Inc., and Dr. Antipas L. Harris of Regent University, who will moderate the discussion.
