Social and Civic Whirl: Elizabeth City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Sponsored a High School Recognition Day
Graduating seniors from high schools from Elizabeth City, Pasquotank County and surrounding counties were honored recently with scholarships and certificates for outstanding academic and volunteer work. An inspirational message that emphasized the need for the young people to prepare themselves for their future endeavors by “taking advantage” of good opportunities was delivered by Minister Gordon Dove. Along with his wife, Martha Dove, Minister Dove performed several beautiful inspirational musical pieces. The message and music were thoroughly enjoyed by the students and other guests.
President of the Elizabeth City Alumnae Chapter of Delta, Addie W. Griffin, made the presentations to the students. This wonderful affair was held at Corner Stone Missionary Baptist Church located in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. The young people and the high schools that they represented are as follows: Tyrelia Mercer and Noah Knowles, Camden County; Denvell Sutton, Jazmyne Turner and Breanna Fain, Perquimans County; Patrice Lewis, John A. Holmes/Edenton; Lindsey Bunch and Krystal Hall, Gates County; Brianna Riddick, Northeastern/Elizabeth City; Rashauna Banks, Shaniyah Sawyer and Datagga Brothers, Pasquotank County; Daniel Wood, Currituck County; and Jasmine Ryan, ECSU. These students have chosen to matriculate at East Carolina University; Elizabeth City State University; Fayetteville State University; North Carolina A & T State University; North Carolina Central University; University North Carolina/ Greensboro; and University of North Carolina/Wilmington.
Sorors Sandra Cooper and Dr. Glenda Griffin Co-Chaired the High School Recognition Committee. Other members were sorors Deborah Manley, Vatara Slade, Trisha Walton, Karen White, Sherron White and President Addie W. Griffin (ex-officio).
