PORTSMOUTH
Rev. Dr. Jamal Harrison Bryant will keynote the 76th Portsmouth NAACP Freedom Fund Awards Gala on October 19 at the Rivers Casino in Portsmouth.
Dr. Bryant is the senior pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Stonecrest, Ga., and a nationally recognized voice for civil rights and community transformation. Most recently he has led the Target Nation-wide Boycott.
This year’s theme is “The Fierce Urgency of Now.” At this pivotal moment in our nation, the Portsmouth NAACP is calling on the community to recommit to the movement for justice, equity, and freedom – and to join them in celebrating Portsmouth changemakers.
“As the urgency of now intensifies, we have both an opportunity and an obligation to act,” said Louie Gibbs, Jr. President of the Portsmouth NAACP. “We invite Portsmouth to stand with us – show up, speak up, and step up as we honor local leaders, hear from Dr. Bryant, and recommit to the work ahead.”
