Coach Michael Vick and the NSU Spartans could not get out of their own way as they were upended by three turnovers and two missed field goals in a 31-28 loss to Sacred Heart University at Price Stadium on Saturday (September 20) in front of 8,127 fans.

The Spartans had opportunities to increase their 14-7 lead over the Pioneers in the second quarter but were vexed by turnovers. NSU trailed 24-14 in the fourth quarter but were sparked by running back Kevon King’s 57 yard touchdown run. King fumbled the ball on the Spartans next possession.

NSU took the ball downfield with 1:30 remaining in the game, starting at their own 25 yard line. NSU kicker Evan Helfrich missed a potential game-tying  42 yard field goal attempt at the end of regulation, which gave the Pioneers the victory. NSU totaled 550 yards of offense.
