The Michael Vick Era at Norfolk State kicked off Thursday night (August 28) at Price Stadium with 19,469 fans in attendance-the largest non-homecoming crowd since 2023- and a live national audience watching on ESPNU.
NSU played tough through three quarters but struggled on offence and were hampered by penalties and the inability to stop their opponent’s momentum during key points of the game which resulted in a disappointing 27-7 loss to Towson of the CAA.
NSU played two quarterbacks, Israel Carter, who started the game, completed two of four passes for 21 yards, and was replaced by senior Otto Kuhns, who completed 19 of 27 passes for 219 yards.
NSU’s Jaylen Lauudermilk scored on a 8-yard run to make the score 13-7 in the 4th quarter. NSU running back Kevon King had 11 carries for 30 yards. Towson quarterback Andrew Indorf connected on touchdown passes of 36 and 15 yards later in the quarter to seal the win for the Tigers.
After the game, NSU coach Michael Vick admitted that he had the jitters before the game, but that he was proud of his team’s defensive effort and that there were some things to improve upon on offense.
NSU hosts former CIAA rival Virginia State on September 6 at 6 p.m. at Price Stadium.
