Chesapeake Democratic Women Awards Six During Annual Scholarship Luncheon
The Chesapeake Democratic Women honored six exceptional high school seniors with $1,000 scholarships during their annual luncheon, recognizing academic excellence and community service in the spirit of late community advocate Nora Davenport.

CHESAPEAKE
The Chesapeake Democratic Women (CDW) recently hosted the group’s annual Nora Davenport Scholarship Luncheon during which six graduating Chesapeake high school seniors were awarded. Each of the scholars received $1,000 from the CDW to assist with their higher education.
This year’s luncheon was held at the River Walk Club House on Sunday June 8 and was well attended by members of the CDW and the scholars and their families. The keynote speaker was Attorney Karen Kasey Robins-Carnegie, Carnegie Law Group in Chesapeake. She also is a candidate for Virginia House of Delegates District 89 and is running as a Democrat.
The scholarship was established in 1995 and is named for the late Nora Davenport, an active member of the Chesapeake community.
Applicants for the scholarship were vetted based on their academic excellence and community service. All of the awardees are graduating with GPAs ranging from 4.4 to 4.89.
Those receiving awards were as follows:
Phoenix Banks (Oscar Smith H.S.); Carlie Barnes (Western Branch H.S.); Alyssa Affa (Deep Creek H.S.); Charlotte Stone (Great Bridge H.S.); Tina Pan (Oscar Snith H.S.); and Taylor Louka (Grassfield H.S.).
President of the CDW is Annette Kelly. The program was planned and hosted by Scholarship Committee Chair Della Hudson and committee members Jeanne DeRusha, Wanda Camm, Saria Billet, Jean Carideo, Linda Crawfiord and Sandy Godwin.
