Chesapeake Juneteenth Foundation To Hold Annual Scholarship Event

The Chesapeake Juneteenth Foundation  will host its annual Juneteenth Scholarship Luncheon on June 14, 2025 at noon at the Greenbrier Country Club.

The 2025 theme is “2025 Juneteenth: Made In America” and features as keynote speaker Capt. Edward W. Gantt (U.S. Navy Retired). Mistress of Ceremony is Donna Sample-Smith, and Gospel Artist Regeena Burden will perform.

The Chesapeake Juneteenth Foundation has been presenting the annual luncheon event in observance of the Juneteenth holiday in advance of its becoming a national holiday. Funds raised from the luncheon go to support the group’s student scholarships which are presented during the luncheon.

Capt. Gantt Edward W. Gantt is a retired Navy Captain, raised in Washington, D.C. and educated by its Public School System. He is a graduate of Howard University and the National Defense University. He spent  thirty years of active-duty military service in the Army and Navy, the majority of those years in aviation. Gantt served as a Naval Flight Officer in a number of F-14 TOMCAT squadrons based in Virginia Beach, VA, San Diego, CA, and aboard U.S. Navy aircraft carriers. From the fall of 2004 through the fall of 2022, he served as a high school teacher in public schools in Prince George’s County, MD and in Washington, D.C. Since August 2021, he has served as Vice Commander-in-Chief of the Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW).

The luncheon ticket is $60 and includes a souvenir magazine.
