The Tidewater Alumni Chapter of Virginia State University held its annual scholarship luncheon Saturday (April 23) at the Chesapeake Convention Center. The keynote speaker was newly minted VSU President Dr. Makola M. Abdullah, the 14th President of the Historically Black, Land-Grant University in Chesterfield County. Before coming to VSU, Dr. Abdullah served as Provost and Senior Vice President at Bethune-Cookman University.
In his remarks, Dr. Abdullah noted the recent accomplishments of the university and urged alumni and supporters to continue to tell the story of VSU and to assist with much needed fundraising. Dr. Abdullah thanked the local chapter for their hard work and dedication, noting that the Tidewater branch was one of VSU’s strongest and most financially supportive alumni chapters. The luncheon was chaired by Douglas Heflin and WAVY-TV News anchor Anita Blanton served as host.
