“We will also honor the contributions from some distinguished men, who have made significant contributions toward the advancement of our community,” the organization noted in a statement on its website. “These will be dedicated men who have made outstanding contributions toward helping our youth and others throughout the Hampton Roads community.”
Launched for young boys and men, “especially those from historically disadvantaged backgrounds” who are far more likely to face discrimination and high unemployment, the annual fundraiser has awarded over $82,000 in scholarships to 75 male high school seniors. At least 6,500 men and boys have attended this event.
Multiple sponsors support this year’s event including Senator Louise Lucas, Optima Health, United Way of South Hampton Roads, Ark Insurance (Allstate), Meeks Consulting, CLP Tax and Wealth Advisory and Towne Bank. Faith-based partners include First Baptist Church South Hill, Grove Church, and Divine Baptist Church.
