VCIC Presents 52nd Annual Tidewater Humanitarian Awards – Bishop Courtney McBath Among Honorees

NORFOLK
The Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities (VCIC) hosted its 52nd Annual Tidewater Humanitarian Awards on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott. The awards celebration honors individuals and organizations for making significant humanitarian contributions to the South Hampton Roads community. The 2016 recipients were Charles G. Barker, automobile dealership owner; Cynthia Cutler, real estate lending professional; Bishop B. Courtney McBath, Cavalry Revival Church; and businessman Alvin A. Wall.
Two organizations were awarded. They were the Voices of Faith, an interfaith dialogue program operating out of Virginia Wesleyan College; and The Institute for the Humanities at Old Dominion University for the “Birth of An Answer” Program under the direction of Dr. Avi Santo. The Humanitarian Awards are presented annually in communities across the state by the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities. Begun in Tidewater in 1965, when the organization was part of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, the Humanitarian Awards honor individuals and organizations who have demonstrated a commitment to the promotion of respect and understanding among people of diverse racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. The 2016 VCIC Tidewater Humanitarian Awards dinner was chaired by Jody M. Wagner, Founder and President of Jody’s Popcorn.
For 81 years, the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities has been addressing prejudices, in all forms in order to improve academic achievement, increase workplace productivity, and enhance local trust. Today through workshops, retreats, and customized programs, VCIC works with schools, businesses, and communities to achieve success through inclusion.
