Portsmouth/Suffolk Kappa Alumni Chapter Hosts Annual Achievement and Awards Banquet

PORTSMOUTH
The Portsmouth/Suffolk alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity hosted its annual Achievement and Awards banquet Saturday (June 13) at the Edmonds Center in Portsmouth, VA. The chapter presented scholarship awards in the amount of $1,000 to Shaheer A. Khan-King’s Fork High, Octavian Mazyck-Wilson High, Isa Peterson-Wilson High, Antonio Saunders-Wilson High, and Cameron Stokes-Wilson High.
Community Service Awards were presented to James H. Faulk-chairman of the Suffolk Economic Development Authority, Vernon Randall-retired principal of I.C. Norcom High, the Honorable Faye Mitchell-Clerk of Chesapeake Circuit Court, and Rev. Robert Earls-Pastor St. John Baptist Church. John Washington was named Brother of the Year 2014-2015.
Portsmouth Schools Superintendent Dr. Elie Bracy was the keynote speaker. In his remarks, Dr. Bracy told the scholarship recipients, “Be open to new ideas,” and after finishing college, “bring your talents back to Portsmouth.”
Smooth jazz was rendered by N-TREGUE. Chapter members thanked the New Journal and Guide for covering this event.
