Marriner’s Moment: Recommitment: Giving God’s Way – Part 4
By Pastor Melvin O. Marriner
Grove Church
Do you give God’s way, or do you give your leftovers? Many of us want God to bless us and highly favor us, but we do not put God first when it comes to our finances.
We have all heard the expression ‘you reap what you sow.’ This is not simply an old adage; these words of wisdom are in the Bible. Galatians 6:7 reads: “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”
Further, 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 reads, “Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.”
Tithing makes a significant statement about our relationship with God in the areas of obedience, faith, trust and our individual relationship with God. How do we give God’s way? Give gratefully (2 Cor. 9:7), proportionally (Deuteronomy 16:17), sacredly (Matthew 6:3) , systematically (1 Cor. 16:2) and of our first fruits (Proverbs 3:9).
Giving is an outward expression of our love, joy, and gratitude toward God. Don’t tell Him you love Him – show Him!
Peace and power,
