Implement The Dream Gala Awards Seven

NORFOLK
The 20th annual Implement the King Dream Awards Gala was held on Friday, March 4 at the Murray Center, sponsored by UniqueK Productions. Seven honorees were recognized for their life’s works that emulate the contributions and services of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The keynote speaker was Rev. Debra L. Haggins, Chaplain of Hampton University, who delivered her message from the book of Jeremiah. Haggins compared the lives of the honorees to that of Jeremiah who did the will of God because he had been created for that purpose. Speaking on responding to the predestined call of God on our lives, she said, “If you miss your appointment (to respond), you will miss your destiny and you will miss your future.”
Those honored were as follows: Jan M. House, Community Philanthropist; William A. Miller, Spiritual Mentor; Debra R. Clark, Mentor/Humanitarian; Hope S. Askew, Trailblazer/Humanitarian; Danny H. Miller, Mentor/Trailblazer; Rev. Stanford A. Mack, Community Philanthropist; and Minister Jeffrey F. Whittaker, Mentor/Philanthropist.
Elder Dr. Angela Corprew-Boyd served as the evening’s Mistress of Ceremony. Musical entertainment was provided by Titus Jackson & Friends and 14-year-old Dorian Davis. Prayers were rendered by Minister Latrece Williams-McKinght. New Journal and Guide Publisher Brenda H. Andrews presented the honorees to the audience.
