Peering Back Into Norfolk History

NORFOLK
A first kiss or just a day in the sun were shared by Norfolk residents during the recent unveiling of the City Beach historical marker in what is now the East Beach community. Mayor Kenneth Alexander, City Councilman Paul Riddick, former City Beach lifeguard Mervin Pitchford, East Ocean View Civic League representative Juanita Smith and local historian Kathleen Edward were among dignitaries on hand June 7 for the unveiling at the original 11-acre site of the public beach for African Americans under segregation.
