Local Voices: Trump’s Behavior Unworthy of A U.S. President

Well, here we go, again …

Our “favorite” president (Donald J. Trump) is at it again.

I find it interesting that the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) of Mental Disorders, which is the standard for the classification of mental disorders used by mental health professionals in the United States uses the following criteria for the narcissistic personality Trump exhibits:

• Having an exaggerated sense of self-importance.

• Expecting to be recognized as superior even without achievements that warrant it.

• Exaggerating your achievements and talents.

• Being preoccupied with fantasies about success, power, brilliance, beauty and/or the perfect mate.

• Believing that you are superior and can only be understood by or associate with equally special people.

• Requiring constant admiration.

• Having a sense of entitlement.

• Expecting special favors and unquestioning compliance with your expectations.

• Taking advantage of others to get what you want.

• Having an inability or unwillingness to recognize the needs and feelings of others.

• Being envious of others and believing others envy you.

• Behaving in an arrogant or haughty manner to others.

Just recently at the State of the Union Address (January 30), Trump called the Democrats who did not stand for and applaud him, “unpatriotic and un-American.” All of this reminds me of the eloquent words and sage advice of President Theodore Roosevelt: “To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonous to the American public.”

Several days ago, (February 9th), Trump was again in hot water due to his insistent defense of two members of his administration (staff secretary Rob Porter and speechwriter David Sorensen), who were accused of sexual abuse and physical violence while married. While doing this, Trump has not once mentioned the (real) victims … the women concerned.

So far, Trump has not issued any (objective) statements pertaining to the 17 victims at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Parkland, Florida, shootings that occurred on February 14th (Valentine’s Day). Basically Trump blames Democrats and mental health issues for ongoing mass gun violence throughout the nation.

Over the weekend of February 18-19, Trump chastised his national security adviser, H.R. McMaster (Lt. General, U.S. Army), over questions of Russia’s involvement in the 2016 presidential election. Although members of his administration and most other government authorities and intelligence experts acknowledge the fact and reality of Russian tampering, Trump basically blames the Obama administration for not doing enough about all this.

Just this past weekend, Friday 23, at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in  National Harbor, Maryland, Trump told the controversial “snake story:” talking about (illegal) immigrants in America, who can’t be trusted, are dangerous, and want to kill you. (This is a “favorite story” of Trump’s, who likes to tell it from time to time when he wants to excite/incite his so-called “base of supporters.”

America (still) is the greatest nation in the world, despite its blemishes, bruises and blushes. Many truly want to “make America white again.” Many are greedy and selfish and they don’t want to share the vast wealth and equal opportunity of America with “others.”

America has not reached her full potential and rightful destination for all of her peoples … not yet, but she can. Together, “we” can do this. Together, “we” can do almost anything. If it is to be, it is up to “us.”

Therefore, let us come together and do the right things…for all of us. And, may God bless and keep “our” America safe, strong, sacred and special.
