Hampton Vice Mayor George Wallace was elected by his peers and sworn in recently as the city’s interim Mayor. He will serve out the term of Molly J. Ward, who resigned recently to take a position at the White House as Assistant to the President to work with local city officials.

The Norfolk State men’s basketball team won its first-ever MEAC basketball tournament crown on Saturday (Mar. 10) with a 73-70 victory over a feisty Bethune Cookman squad in a nationally televised game on ESPN2 from the Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, NC.
The 31st Annual Hampton Bay Days Festival continues its tradition of attracting over 200,000 visitors to the city's downtown waterfront the first weekend of September. The 2013 festival features family fun and entertainment with a lineup of the region's best and diversely talented local musicians, entertaining events, exhibits and popular vendors peddling unique arts & crafts and a wide variety of tasty foods and drink.
There will be right lane closures on I-64 east at the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel Monday and Tuesday from 9 p.m.-4 a.m. for electrical sign repairs; the right lane of I-64 east will be closed Tuesday through Wednesday from 11 p.m. – 5 a.m.
Hampton’s Mosquito Control Team would like some help battling the Asian Tiger Mosquito.
Heavy rains can cause a rise in the number of mosquito that we get, and recent rain means the Mosquito Control Team has received a number of calls from residents looking for relief from the pests.

Alternatives Inc., a contract agent for the Division of Children Youth and Families, needs AmeriCorps volunteers for 2013-2014. Help improve the lives of Hampton young people by leading positive youth development programming.
