Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office to Host Youth Graduation Ceremony

CHESAPEAKE

    On Tuesday May 22,  the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office and Undersheriff Jim O’Sullivan will host the department’s first graduation and scholarship presentation for the young ladies of Aspire. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office Administration Building, 401 Albemarle Drive.

    The Aspire program has 13 participants, 11th and 12th grade girls from Chesapeake high  schools. The mission of Aspire is to help the development of leadership skills for female  residents of the City of Chesapeake. 

     The goal is to reinforce ethics, self-esteem, public service and provide access to prominent female role models and public officials, as well as providing  scholarship opportunities. The participants are assigned mentors whose presence provides caring support, advice, reinforcement and constructive examples to help the young women succeed. 

     The mission included workshops on: Communication, Self Defense, Public Speaking, Problem  Solving, Leadership Roles, Local Government Process, Specialized Certifications ( CPR/First Aid),  and a Field Trip to Richmond to Visit the General Assembly. 

      The program is open to the public.
