Fundraiser To Help Hampton Youth Compete In National Spelling Bee

HAMPTON

     The Lincoln Park Housing Community is celebrating and raising funds to send one of its youth residents to the National Spelling Bee.  

     Karlesha D’Brea Canady, a student at Lindsay Middle School, is the Tidewater Regional Spelling Bee Champion and slated to attend the upcoming Scripps Howard Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

     The fundraiser will help pay her travel costs and will be held May 15 from 5-7 p.m. at the Jones Community Center in the Lincoln Park Boys and Girls Club, 1137 LaSalle Ave., Hampton. The spelling bee competition will be televised on ESPN on May 30-31.

     Don Roberts of WAVY TV 10 will serve as the master of ceremonies. Food will be served and live entertainment will be provided by several entertainers including the Boys and Girls Step Team, DJ Big ERV, and reggae star EVER-G.
