Rev. Dr. James Edwards, III, pastor of New Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church, Chesapeake, VA and his wife, Rev. First Lady Dee and his immediate family were recently awarded the John Henry Foster Family Award. This award was named in honor of the late Rev. Dr. John Henry Foster, who exemplified the highest qualities of commitment to his fellow citizens. He was the former pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church, Norfolk, VA for many years; a member of the Norfolk City Council, and a former president of the Historic Tidewater Metro Baptist Ministers’ Conference of VA, just to name a few.
This distinguished recognition is given each year to a Hampton Roads family that epitomizes the same values of service to the community. This Edwards family was singled out as a family who modeled the best in community service when they worked together through the power of team spirit and active involvement with others in the community.
The award was created by the Hampton Roads 7 Cities Pro-Am Basket Ball League, under the direction of Mr. James L. Flood, Jr., who is its CEO and League Operator.
