Sunny skies and a welcomed relief from this summer’s oppressively hot weather made for a near perfect weekend for the 18th Annual  Berkley Reunion August 3-5 at the Berkley Park. The theme was “Get Connected: Building Unity in the Digital Age”. Hundreds of persons attended at some point to celebrate events which included a youth talent showcase, inspirational singers, local R&B acts, and a variety of food and merchandise vendors. Berkley is over 100-years-old and is one of the oldest predominantly Black neighborhoods in Norfolk. Also, area service agencies provided information and on-site health screenings.

On Sunday morning, First Baptist Church Berkley  and Bellamay Avenue Church of God hosted a full worship service at the park followed by an afternoon of various praise and gospel groups.  The Reunion began 18 years ago as an idea of Quinton “Q” Fields, a young Berkley resident who wanted to bring together former and current residents  to reminisce about old times in Berkley and build unity for the future. It is known fondly as the “granddaddy of all reunions”.
