LOCAL VOICES: The Abuses of Minority Women

Submitted by Dr. Vivian Anderson

Despite minority women being the perpetual foundation of humanity to cultivate life around the world, Minority women in America today are subjected to and/or caused to be subjected to demeaning, generational, and strategic labeling as pawns within the system for the furtherance of the caprices, desires, and whims of men like the Supreme Court Justice Roger Brook Taney who said:  “The Negro has no rights, the white man is bound to respect”.

The mission statement and/or disclaimer of the Chesapeake Public Schools states, “The Chesapeake School System is an equal educational opportunity school system. The School Board of the City of Chesapeake also adheres to the principles of equal opportunity in employment and, therefore; prohibits discrimination in terms and conditions of employment on the basis of race, sex, national origin, color, religion, age, or disability.”
Unfortunately, the communities of the City of Chesapeake and consequently abroad, are experiencing despair, disgust and disillusionment of the educational process. It either appears the Chesapeake Public Schools are eroding its standards  or it has defected, divested, or regressed from its own mission statement to end discrimination in the educational process.

Local Voices: A Time For Change

By Dr. Vivian Anderson

We, as a nation, live in a time when history is continuously being formatted for generations—to come that is, if it’s GOD’s will.  As you well know when President Obama stated during his campaign for President of these United States, that we need a “CHANGE” which is the exact word to impact us all and could not have come at a better time for this nation.

I believe as he, that we definitely need “CHANGE” because locally here in our area of Tidewater and I could say the state of Virginia, “CHANGE” is needed in order to comprehend the signs of the times in which we live.  How many times are we faced with systematic discrepancies, inequities, and injustices that plague our daily existence? How many times are we faced with the lies, the deceit, and indifference from the powers and wiles of unprincipled neighbors, co-workers, leaders, corporations, and municipalities?
