In this column I want to merely touch upon “The Purpose” of the church building and our bodies and how we’re to treat them. Please note that I said merely touch upon because I certainly cannot exhaust all that I would want to share with you in just one short newspaper column. What’s “The Purpose” of the physical church building, facility, structure or edifice, and why have I chosen to address this issue at this time you might ask?

When we hear the word “terrorism”, we generally have our own perceptions of what it means. There are, however, varying definitions of this word and any or all of them may come into play at one time.
There is no uniform definition of “terrorism” that is agreed upon by all of the agencies of the U.S. government!

Being almost lost in the deluge of daily news of various problems, we must call on God’s help. How can we behave like Christians when we are tried and tested by Satan unexpectantly and frequently? James, a man of action, tells us in chapter 4 verse 7 to “Submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

“Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord His God out of the fish’s belly,
And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.
For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

“And I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;
We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:

Jochebed, Moses’ mother, evidently possessed faith in the promises of God. We find it interesting to note how her children also served God, their creator. It is difficult to trace her life’s activities, but we must agree that she was an outstanding mother and a prime example of great faith. Though she has never been vividly described in the Bible, she nevertheless became an unforgettable mother to her son Moses, her daughter Miriam and to her older son Aaron.

It would be beneficial for us to now take a look at a few acts that people have committed in the name of religion / religious beliefs, as well as those carried out for other reasons.
“The Army of God Network” (Christians) have committed numerous acts of so-called domestic terrorism due to bombings of abortion clinics. Hundreds of people have been killed and injured by this group.

While there are several biblical passages which make it quite clear that we are to honor our parents, both of them, our fathers and mothers, I decided to place a special emphasis on our mothers for this particular column because this is Mother’s Day weekend, and besides, I wrote a two-part column about not forgetting our fathers just a couple of weeks ago that ran in this newspaper. Yes, by all means, honor our fathers and our mothers, but in this column the focus will be on our mothers. To all the real mothers out there … I love, respect, and honor YOU!
